Boxy & Cropped

Thursday, June 6, 2013

Ack! I was supposed to share these hi-res photo set from my Preview 'Style Profile' (for the May '13 issue) feature weeks ago but my brain went on hibernation mode. Please forgive me. This is definitely a tell-tale sign of aging. Haha! But moving on...all of these looks revolved around one summer du jour piece: a boxy and cropped top (which I wasn't prepared to bare my abs, or lack thereof, for) designed by local fashion designer, Sassa Jimenez. The considerations I had when I was thinking through the different looks that I had to come up with for this piece were: 1) I had to showcase the top in all of its glory, 2) I had to infuse a bit of layering in the styling and 3) I had to integrate my signature edgy style in the mix...and in true Kookie fashion, this means going for a grunge or all-black mood. The first look in this set is actually a wild card. I took a chance and went with a "sweet" look by pairing the cropped top with an ultra-feminine dress. I  prepared 6 looks all in all, two of which didn't make the cut.

Here they are:

Drop It Low

Pants: Pixiemarket / Top: ASOS / Bag: Phillip Lim / Pumps: Aldo / Eyewear: Karen Walker

Drop crotch pants in leather? Hell yeah! Whoever came up with the idea of mixing these two elements together is pure genius! I remember seeing Christina Centenera (one of the many well-dressed females I adore) rocking a beautiful pair of slouchy leather trousers last year and I knew I had to follow suit since (a) I am a sucker for low waist pants and (b) almost any piece of clothing looks badass if it's made of leather. Needless to say, I've begun using and abusing my leather pants ever since I got them and I won't be surprised if they just give up on me one of these days from too much wear. Haha.
